Equalities Statement

My background in supporting Equality and Diversity

As a firm believer and advocate of everyone’s Human Rights, I have: –

  • Supported the British Red Cross and been a humanitarian educator delivering HIV and refugee education programmes across the Lothians.
  • Led school community work in support of the UNICEF Rights of the Child programme for many years. 
  • Supported children and families with additional needs to improve their access to education and full participation in school life.
  • Undertaken professional leaning about equality and diversity as an educator, including anti-racism education, LGBTQI+ and disability awareness, English as an Additional Language training and support for learning strategies.
  • I have completed Equality and Diversity training modules through the International College of Professional Celebrants.  

My Commitments as a Celebrant

  • I will support and promote equality by treating all people with dignity and respect.
  • I will provide fair and equal access to all my services.
  • I aim to be welcoming, inclusive, and supportive in all meetings and in how I create and present all ceremonies.  
  • I will embrace, value, and celebrate individual differences to support and promote diversity in our community.
  • I will respectfully address people using their preferred gender and/or disability pronouns. 
  • I will take care to respect people’s privacy and only include personal information that they are happy to have shared during the ceremony presentation.
  • I will strive to accommodate individual access requirements and liaise with venue staff to enable everyone to participate in ceremonies.
  • I will not discriminate (indirectly, directly or by association) on the grounds of race, gender, gender reassignment, marital or partnership status, sexual orientation, age, religion or belief, HIV status, or disability (including sensory and physical disabilities, learning disabilities, neurobiological difference, and mental health status). 
  • I will continue to participate in personal development training to stay informed about new developments in society, particularly for providing appropriate celebrant services.
